HAMBURG
UnknownMonday, October 06, 2014 0 comments

this ain't Geneva.
A lot of people have been telling me that it's really nice and probably the nicest city in Germany.  Seeing how it was the long weekend and I had met some lovely Germans from there awhile back and they've been insisting I come visit and see how lovely their city was... So why not?   Got a bus ticket and off I went on my 3.5 bus ride to Hamburg.

NTS:  Book well in advance next time to save money...

So travelling by bus.. it's not that bad.  Bus was good, had wifi that didn't really work, but whatever, I spent most of the time sleeping.  The only thing that was bad was.... some people just don't bathe.  So it did smell and some people just drink the entire bus ride...  can't blame em.

By the time I got there it was like 1am and I was too tired to go partying, so off to bed I went.

If you've been reading my useless posts, you'll know my rants about the weather...

This time, i've been blessed by the weather gods and the entire weekend was sunny, and rain free. :)

Hamburg Rathaus (City Hall)
What better way to explore a city then a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus... so first stop... The Rathuas.  Nothing special... just a building..

Lord please forgive me for my sinnin'

Next stop, St. Michael's Church. I've been to church more since I've moved Europe than the rest of my life.. Only reason is because some of these churches offer amazing views of the city from up high.  I'm a sucker for city scapes.
Port of Hamburg

After cleansing myself of my sins, back onto the bus I went.  Next stop, the Port of Hamburg.  It is exactly what it sounds like.  This area has a Fish Market open every weekend at 5am Sunday morning where you seafood lovers can get fresh fish..  But since I was there on a Friday afternoon, I opted to get the healthier option of Fish and Chips.  It was delicious.
love locks; shit is gettin' old, quick.
yes, I took this.  Photo Bill.
Instead of hopping back on the bus, we decided to walk to the Speicherstadt so it was along the water.  This area is the largest warehouse district in the world.  As you can see, the buildings are super old, thats because it is fucking old.  Some of these buildings were built in the 1800s.. but nearby, there are a lot of NICEEEEE mordern flats.  Apparently these flats cost an arm, leg, lung, and maybe even a kidney.
Reeperbahn
After stuffing ourselves, we headed to the Reeperbahn... basically the party/red light district.  Being freshly cleansed of my sins, I felt quite uncomfortable here.  Why?  Well.. you see.. the picture above is the gateway to... well.. sexxx.  Only men are allowed there.  You walk in and "shops" on both sides with girls sitting in windows wearin' just a bra and something to cover their goods down under.  You can walk up to the glass and the girls will open the window and "talk" to you.. I can only assume this is the negotiation for the goodies.  Oh and in this area, prosties are at at every where.  everywhere.

Außenalster
Day 2 started much much later and was at a much slower pace.. We headed to the otter alster.. and just sat there and took in the sights.  As usual, people were bringing in cases of beer to the park and setting up their grills..

Water Light Show
So after some window shopping and dinner, we headed to see the light show.  Lucky me!!! It was the 2nd last show of the year because winter is coming.  The pics I took don't do this show justice.. half an hour of music and lights.. pretty good.
